Well, I did it! I took or scanned a photo (or 3 or 4) everyday this month!! Fatmumslim is having yet another photo-a-day challenge for May. The last prompt for April is "something that makes you sad"...
I kinda wish the challenge had ended on a happier topic, but then again, this is real life. I'm sure I could have come up with something clever and silly, like, the load of laundry that needs to be moved from the washer to the dryer that I forgot about until midnight makes me 'sad'. Or, The Good Wife was a repeat makes me 'sad'. But, in the spirit of honesty, Trey's cancer does make us sad (the real kind), but Trey brings us JOY.
I thought this challenge was fun and made me use a creative corner of my brain. Plus, I had to do some time management to make it work everyday. I'd encourage anyone to try it, even if you take the photos, then wait and post multiple pics at one time!

Day 28 Photo!!
"1 pm"
The lunch bunch!!!
I tried to get myself in the picture (you can see my lunch on the table), but I simply could not figure out how to make the timer longer than 2 seconds before apple slices started flying! Don't panic, I figured it out later.

Day 27 Photo!!!
"Somewhere you went"
Almost exactly 10 years ago, we went to Jamaica for a long weekend. I believe we had decided that this would be our last hoorah before diving into parenthood. We knew our lives would be different (little did we know HOW MUCH different) and this would be our final vacation with just the 2 of us. This picture was taken at Dunn's River Falls, which is basically a mandatory site to see while you're there. And yes, my hair is in corn rows...which may have hurt more than childbirth. (I'm tender headed, leave me alone!)

Day 25 Photo!!
"Looking down"
I finally finished this project! It's a magazine starburst wall hanging thingy for Bella's room. I started it a few months ago and kept getting sidetracked. But, tonight, yes TONIGHT!! I finished it. This is what it looked like as I was looking down. I'll post a picture once it's up on Bella's wall.

Day 23 Photo!!!
Vegetable is today's subject matter. Jay made me a lovely salad today for lunch. Mmmmmmm, delicious! Did I take a picture of all the bright colors of peppers and lettuce and carrots? No no no, don't be silly. I thought of the photo prompt as I was putting the empty bowl into the sink. Then, at dinner time, I realized that all the good veggies had ended up in our salads. For dinner we had....
Corn on the cob and celery sticks! I keep it classy. Oh, they also had chicken with a lovely soy sauce/sour cream sauce, rice and applesauce, not just random veggies.

Day 22 Photo!!!
"The last thing you bought" was today's prompt. Soooooo...
No, I did not buy Trey. Nor did I buy him a tattoo. Perry the Platypus is merely temporary. But! The netting around his belly is the last thing I bought. Just last night, as a matter of fact. Once I clicked 'buy' on amazon.com, I checked to see what today's photo prompt was. Well, there it is. Not all of Trey's medical supplies are covered and we have to buy them ourselves. This netting is one of those things. The netting holds his IV lines close to him to prevent them from getting snagged or broken.
p.s. Since I see this all day everyday, I've become used to seeing his IV lines and dressing, etc., so I apologize if these pics were too much.

Day 21 Photo!!
"Bottle".....oooh the possibilities! Then, the reality. We don't have too many bottles in the house. Why is that? Sure, there's olive oil, dressings and such. But, that seems so boring. I don't have any cool wine bottles, empty or otherwise. No water bottles or pop bottles. Hmmmm...Then I remembered this!
This is a bottle of sparkling juice given to us by our friend as an engagement gift. I told you guys! I keep stuff! I thought it was so sweet that he went to the trouble to change the label to make it his last name! (When he gave this to us, the letter he taped to the bottle matched the actual label. It's been a few years.) So, it's been perched on top of a bookcase in our office for years and years and it will be for many more years. Plus, this was a good opportunity to play with lighting and stuff with the camera.

Day 20 Photo!!
"Something you drew"....hmmmmm, I don't do a lot of drawing around these here parts. But then I remembered that for every birthday since the beginning of Mitlo children we make handmade signs for each person's birthday. This past March, we celebrated 3 birthdays and had about 100 signs. Feeling guilty about throwing away all the signs, I put them in the pile of scratch paper. Come on, you can do your times tables on the back of a used piece of paper, can't you? This year, Joe is into The Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Bella loves Spongebob! I dug these 2 signs out of the scrap pile!
Boom! Happy birthday, kids! Jay had a birthday, too, but I just couldn't get his favorite character right...

Day 19 Photo!!!
Can you say co-inky-dink? Today's photo prompt was 'orange' and look what Daddy brought home from Home Depot today....
And by 'brought home from Home Depot', I mean the wheelbarrow...(or as I like to say willbarrel).

Day 18 Photo(s)!!!
Today's photo prompt was "hair". I simply cannot just put up ONE picture of my hair...it has too much of a story to tell!
Come on! This is my 8th grade school picture. How was it possible to NOT have a long line of suitors waiting on me? I mean, the angles, the frizz, the thickness? What's not to love?
First of all, I loved that shirt, so shhhhh! Now, let's focus on the lovely blue/black color of my hair and the highly curled and sprayed bangs. Nice, right?
As out of control as this is, it's in my comfort zone. Big, curly, wild....
Then, I met Jay and THIS horrible hair cut happened. I'm thinking my friends were mad at me. Or maybe they thought I was doing some type of social experiment to see if a stranger would actually ask me if I was serious about my hair.
Well I showed them! While on our honeymoon, I had my hair chopped right off my head. I kept it that way for about a year. It wasn't too horrible, but it just wasn't me. So I thought this was better...
Yeah, that's right. Blonde. What the what? People let me go to work like this. For shame! I maintained the color until my scalp became nothing but scar tissue from the burning.
So, I let it grow out and tweaked the color. And I discovered the joy of the ceramic straightener! I didn't straighten it too often and the damage was probably not worth all the work it took to make it look smooth as opposed to flatly frizzy.
These days, I keep it curly (and a normal color) with the help of my friend Kelly and DevaChan hair products!!!

Day 17 Photo!!!
"Something you don't like". Well! Where to start? There are so many to choose from. I didn't have any pictures of birds, magicians, shell fish or info-mercials, so I settled for what was right in front of me....
This is the dirt I swept up from the dining room and living room floors! What?!? How in the world do the floors get so freakin' dirty? Why is there Easter grass still on the floor?? I don't think I swept the floors yesterday, so this is actually 2 days worth of filth, but still! How? Are other peoples floors like this? Am I the only one? Let me tell ya, it feels like it! Anywho, it drives me crazy and I don't like it!

Day 16 Photo!!
Today's prompt was "flower"....
These little beauts are the red azaleas that I mentioned in this post. I wish they lasted longer, but at least the rhododendron still have to bloom....something to look forward to! By the way, I spelled rhododendron correctly the first time. Boom!

Day 14 Photo!!
"How you feel today" was today's photo prompt....
THIS is HOW I feel....so sleepy! To be cozy on the couch for a long nap would have been glorious. But, alas, there was a luncheon to attend, errands to run, hors d'oeuvres to make and a party to attend. Such a busy social butterfly I am! However, long days at the hospital with Trey, plus all the other duties of parenting, etc. make for one tired Momma. I'll sleep someday, right?
p.s. Coziest blanket ever in that picture. If it's even near you while you sit on the couch, you can fall asleep. True story.

Day 13 Photo!!
"Something you found"
This little container was tucked deep in a trunk in the attic of my dad's house for almost 30 years. I believe it sat on my mother's dresser or night stand before it was put in the trunk and locked away. The leaf petals are so delicate and some of the gold patina (?) is scratched off, but there were still safety pins and stray buttons inside it. Now it sits on my dresser and I occasionally add a button or pin. I'm happy that I "found" this little treasure...

Day 12 Photo!
Today's prompt was "stairs".
I didn't want to take a picture from the bottom of the steps looking up, because admittedly, I didn't want the blogging world to see all the scuff marks on the face of each step. Though, let me tell ya, a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser takes care of that right quick. Anywho, these steps were a labor of love. When we moved in to the house, there was this horribly pale blue carpet throughout the first and second floor. Once we had dogs and high school kids over (for Bible studies) you could see dirt trails through every room! Jay painstakingly refinished all the floors. The steps were no easy feat! He had to do every other step about a million times and find ways to keep the dogs off them. And I love the tile at the bottom! We did all the work ourselves! Hooray for home improvements!
p.s. The Spongebob scarf wound through the baby gate is my homemade locking mechanism. Shabby chic? Maybe.
